the internet is wonderful and horrible
my life.
oh my god yes.
My French Revolution module, 2011-2012.
Oh man, I do this all the time.
Like with “Hawaii”, for example.
Technically it should be spelled “Hawai’i” and pronounced like “ha-viy-ee”. But I say “huh-why-ee” because that’s how I’ve always heard it and that’s the way English speakers generally say it. I feel like if I say it right, I look like a poser snob. But I don’t like to say it wrong either, because it’s wrong.
Wat do?
Me with Spanish. I can roll my Rs, speak with the appropriate accent and say the words correctly, but I don’t. I’m Hispanic, but I don’t look it, so I guess I speak Spanish (when I do) the way any other non-Hispanic white girl would.
my Mexican friend at work always laughs at me when I try to say Spanish words. She says I sound like a robot.
